Fresh Cow Management

  Fresh Cow Summary

 freshcowsummary1sm.jpg

AgSource's Fresh Cow Summary© is the ultimate tool for monitoring transition cow management and performance. Featuring the patented Transition Cow Index®  in Block A, the Fresh Cow Summary also monitors fresh cow subclinical ketosis, subclinical mastitis and cows leaving the herd in the first 60 days of lactation.

*Transition Cow Indexes provide the basis for estimating the economic impacts of improving transition cow management. The economic impact of TCI is calculated from these associations:
- Each additional pound of TCI is associated with 1.27 pounds of milk in the current lactation
- Each additional pound of TCI is associated with 0.00265 percent increase in lactation survival rate.  In other words, an increase of 1,000 lbs TCI reduces turnover rate by 2.65 percent.

Using current prices, a 1,000 pound change in TCI is worth $250 per cow per year. The spread between better and poorer TCI scores is about 4,000 pounds meaning there is a $1,000 per cow per year opportunity for improving fresh cow management on a number of dairies.

The Fresh Cow Summary is an optional report available to all herds that process their DHI records with AgSource. For more detailed explanations of the Fresh Cow Summary, click here

Fresh Cow List

freshcowlistsm.jpg

The Fresh Cow List individualizes the Fresh Cow Summary data to a per cow basis for cows fresh in the current test period. This report is valuable for seeing trends. Frequently, cows with low Transition Cow Indexes may also have subclinical mastitis infections or fat to protein ratios over 1.4. The Fresh Cow List is an optional report. It can be purchased separately or in combination with the Fresh Cow Summary.
