More UHM Benefits

Accurately identify problem areas. Our old UHM Summary (and those used by competitors) calculates new infection rates by dividing the number of new infections by the number of cows on test. In addition, cows with a Condition Affecting Record (CAR) code are not included in calculations. With AgSource's new UHM Summary, new infections (including CAR coded cows) are divided by the number of uninfected cows on the previous test day. This New Infection Rate is a truly accurate picture of what is happening in each "Risk Group".

How important is this? Let's assume you have 100 cows on test, 20 have chronic infections and 8 cows who had not had an SCC over 199,000 this lactation are infected this month. You also have another 12 cows with new infections, but these cows had infections earlier in this lactation. There are also 4 newly infected cows with a CAR code. The New Infection Rate using the old methodology is 8% (8/100). AgSource's new UHM Summary calculates a New Infection Rate of 30% (24/80) that correctly raises a red flag that your herd's udder infection status needs your full attention now!

AgSource's new UHM Package is unique in the industry for correctly categorizing cows with an SCC over 199,000 on their first test day after calving by taking into account the cow's infection status on the last test day of her previous lactation. If she was infected at the end of her last lactation, she is a Chronic Infection, not a Fresh Cow Infection.  russ-page-1.jpg

In this case, correct categorization focuses your attention on Chronic Infections, saving you the effort of overhauling your fresh cow management.
